Slaty fischeri is a mutation in lovebirds that is quite unique in my opinion, when it was first discovered in slaty green birds it was very similar to the DDgreen / double dark green mutation. Although the slaty green will appear brighter, the accent colours in their feathers resemble the DD Factor green.

Years after it appeared in the green series, lovebirds breeders pushed to move it to the blue series. It is the blue series that has a striking colour difference from the previously discovered lovebirds mutation. The grey colour is definitely not of the mauve (DDblue) variety. The colour in slaty blue looks brighter.

The slaty factor in lovebirds is an autosomal dominant trait, which means that birds only need one copy of the gene to show the traits of this mutation.

When lovebirds with the slaty factor breed, they can pass on this mutation to their offspring, which allows the spread of this unique colour within the lovebird population.

For exhibition or competition, lovebirds belonging to the slaty mutation series must fulfil certain criteria. Only birds that have a green or blue colour can be classified in this category.

The bird can also have one dark factor and one or two slaty factors. In the lovebird world, the slaty mutation is divided into two main types: slaty green and slaty blue.

Slaty Green and Slaty Blue have different colour backgrounds, with grey on a green or blue background. To achieve the perfect colour, special attention must be paid to the colour of the bird's mask, which must be clear of any dark deposits or unwanted spots.
